Since its inception, The NRA Foundation, Inc., has funded more than 15,000 grants totaling over $140 million, becoming America's leading charitable organization in support of the shooting sports. The NRA Foundation continues to expand its efforts to fund a variety of programs in communities across the nation. Through its national supported programs and support of local clubs, law enforcement agencies, youth organizations, hunting and conservation groups, teachers, school children and civic associations, the foundation reaches out to meet the needs of Americans everywhere.

State Fund Grants are awarded to eligible applicants for qualifying projects or activities that promote firearms and hunting safety; enhance the marksmanship skills of those participating in the shooting sports; educate the general public about firearms in their historic, technological, and artistic context; or contribute to the general well-being of the public at large.

HEARTLAND Friends of NRA

The HEARTLAND Friends of NRA is a totally volunteer organization along with 1,100 different committees across the United States and 25 different committees in the state of Oklahoma.  Our purpose is to raise funds to support the goals of the NRA.  These funds benefit youth, NRA members and the general public.  One-half of the raised funds come directly back to the state of Oklahoma for youth, women, and other shooting programs as grant decided by the state committee of which the HEARTLAND Friends of NRA has a representative.  One-half of the raised funds go to the NRA Foundation for grants at the National Level for larger projects like range improvements.

High Caliber Club

The HEARTLAND Friends of NRA is a High Caliber Club committee.  Earning this status means joining an exclusive group of committees who take Friends of NRA fund-raising to the next level.  To earn the title, committees must raise over $25,000 at their single event and from there, the committee is eligible for a series of High Caliber Club firearms.

My belief in the Second Amendment and wanting to make a difference.

Oklahoma is second behind Texas for having the most ecosystems in the United States. The state has one of oldest mountain ranges in North America – the Wichita Mountains in the southwest part of the state. Oklahoma boasts many types of unique terrain and has the five civilized Indian tribes [the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek and Seminole].

What would you say is your average traveled miles per year?

I drive 45 to 50 thousand [miles] a year.

What is the best part of your job?

Working with the many great NRA volunteers across the state and providing funding for the shooting sports, which is the key to the future of the Second Amendment. [Darren is pictured above (bottom left) at a NRA volunteer pheasant hunt in Guymon, OK].

Is there anything else about your experience you’d like to share?

It is truly an honor to work for the NRA. At times it does not seem like a job because of my passion for the Second Amendment.
